The Lima Astronomical Society Summer Viewing Program happens every Friday night at dusk at Schoonover Observatory. An astronomy program will be presented in the meeting room with our new multimedia system. Viewing with the updated telescope and mount will be weather permitting. JUNE 2ND.-4TH.: The Van Wert Peony Festival will be held June, 2-4, 2017 in Van Wert Ohio. Friday will feature a free car show, a free concert with Groove Essential, among other activities. Saturday kicks off with a free Kid’s Fishing Derby, a color run hosted by the YMCA, carnival rides and free activities in the park for the kids. The Grand Parade steps out onto Main st at 5:00. The camp is open to girls and boys ages 5-13, with sessions taking place from 6-8 p.m. each evening. Registration fee is $80. JUNE 17TH.: Bluffton University to host women’s soccer ID Camp The women’s soccer team at Bluffton University will host an ID Camp from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 17.The camp is open to players aged 15 and up who aspire to compete at the collegiate level. The camp will be an opportunity for high school athletes to improve their skill level through coaching sessions, to understand the training regimen at the collegiate level and to learn about the unique opportunities Bluffton offers student-athletes. The registration fee is $50 and includes lunch and t-shirt.After the training sessions, participants will have the opportunity to meet admissions counselors and tour campus in conjunction with Bluffton University’s summer Discovery Day. JUNE 17TH.: Bluffton University to host men’s soccer ID Camp The men’s soccer team at Bluffton University will host an ID Camp from 2 -4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. The camp is open to players in high school graduation classes from 2018-2021. The camp will be constructed around the technical, tactical and functional aspects of the college game. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a college training environment while given the chance to be evaluated by the Bluffton University men’s soccer staff. Camp staff is comprised of Bluffton University men’s soccer coaches as well as current players. The cost is $40. This camp will be held in coordination with Bluffton University’s Summer Discovery Day. ID Camp participants can choose to register for Discovery Day which begins at 10 a.m. The event includes opportunities to learn more about admissions, financial aid and student life on campus. Campus tours, an academic fair with faculty and a complementary lunch will be available. JUNE 26TH.-29TH.: Bluffton University to host basketball skills camp The Bluffton University women’s basketball team will host a Skills Camp Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29. The camp is open to girls entering grades 2-8. The first session will be for participants entering grades 2-4 and will take place from 9 a.m.-noon all four days. The second session will be for participants entering grades 5-8 and will take place from 1-4 p.m. each day. The cost for session 1 is $55 per camper while session 2 costs $65 per camper and payment must be received by June 15.
